Verdict for the mother of a toddler who died while in the care of her babysitter. The Jury awarded $35 million in damages for the death of the toddler and an additional $35 million in punitive damages against the defendant. While it is unlikely the mother will be able to collect on the verdict—the babysitter is serving a lengthy prison sentence—it was important to the family that a jury hear what happened, and they’re extraordinarily grateful to the jury for recognizing the value of the child’s life.
