The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association (CMBA) will soon hold its Small Solo Expo 2020: COVID-19 Update seminar, which will cover a range of pandemic-related, legal-centric topics. Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP is excited to announce that our own Attorney Stuart Scott will be acting as a keynote speaker during this live interactive webinar.
Attorney Scott will begin the webinar with “Class Actions Involving COVID.” During this discussion, he will focus on the rise of business interruption insurance claims filed throughout the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Businesses of all sizes have been feeling the financial pressure due to lockdown procedures making it difficult for people to purchase goods and services like normal. Business interruption insurance should help bridge the gap, but many insurance companies have not been cooperative, which has led to the need for class actions against those insurers and filed by business owners.
He will also talk about the increase in claims filed against public and private colleges and universities. Students across the country have cried foul after being charged full tuition for an online education that does not come with all the benefits of the in-person, on-campus experience. Most educational institutions have refused to refund students the difference, and some have even claimed to do so would bankrupt them, so new class actions have been the answer in many of these emerging situations.
There will also be dissertations from other speakers about business valuations related to COVID-19 and safety measures various industries can take to continue to operate as close to “business as usual” during the pandemic. This webinar is definitely one to attend if you are a legal professional who accepts business, commercial, and/or insurance law cases.
