Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP's Story Begins in 1946

In 1946, Craig Spangenberg, one of the nation’s premier trial lawyers, founded the firm now known as Spangenberg Shibley & Liber. Spangenberg was dedicated to fighting for those who needed it most – understanding the legal system was unfairly skewed in favor of defendants, which are often large corporations. He worked to bring balance to the legal system and persistently served as an advocate and voice for those without.

Spangenberg earned national recognition for the firm when he represented Canadian children injured by the birth-defect-causing morning sickness medication, Thalidomide. He was appointed to the Canadian Queen’s Counsel by Queen Elizabeth II as a result of his honorable work.

Spangenberg was among the group of lawyers who founded what is today known as the American Association for Justice.
